Why this concept works
This concept works because it works because it is unmistakably about them: the same gesture given to anyone else would not make sense. It also helps that the surprise element carries much of the value — it turns an ordinary occasion into a small event. It asks for real effort, and that effort is the point: the recipient can see the hours in it, which is exactly why it outperforms its price.
Make it more personal
- Interview their parent last
- Put a photo of each person at the top of their page
- Leave a blank chapter titled 'the rest is yours'
How to pull it off
- 1.Line up eight to ten people and book real calls, not a group text.
- 2.Ask each the same five questions plus one that's specific to them.
- 3.Transcribe honestly — keep the filler and the laughing.
- 4.Design it plainly and print two copies, binding one properly.
Potential downside — and who should skip it
One caution: this concept carries real risk of misfire if your read on the person is wrong — the surprise cuts both ways, so be honest about how well you actually know their taste before committing. The time cost is the catch — if the week is already crowded, either start early or pick a lower-effort sibling of this concept.
