You pick a box and it opens in three stages: first the shape of the gift, then its character, then roughly what it costs. You find out what you chose at the same pace as everyone watching.
All five boxes come from the same filtered pool, so there's no dud in the set. One of them is deliberately the boldest thing in the batch — and that box gets shuffled to a different position every round, so there's nothing to learn and nothing to game.
