This concept works because the fun is front-loaded: the gift lands at the moment of use, not the moment of unwrapping. It also helps that it works because it is unmistakably about them: the same gesture given to anyone else would not make sense. It is also one of the lower-effort concepts: the thinking is the hard part, and the execution fits inside an evening.
